Four months of constant readings, papers, and quizzes. there were definitely some days and nights i thought i wasn't going to make it. but here i am, standing up straight and feeling the burden on my shoulders lift off in the midst of a nice, slow breeze. so, what have i learned from these last four months?
I know how mountains became mountains, and how water erodes and changes our landscape to make it look how it does at this moment. i can now differentiate between a
sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rock. if you see me staring with concentration at the sand the next time I'm at the beach, I'm most likely trying to decipher between the quartz or shale content in it. I know that the waves' purpose is to make the world a more linear place and that the beaches we know now didn't used to look like that.
I v a g u e l y understand the concept of transcedentalism, and that Whitman, Emerson, and Franklin were way ahead of their time, and I'd love to dissect their brains during a lovely dinner on their ideas and how they'd like to see it work in our generation.I got in touch with my creative writing side again. I had forgotten that words aren't just words -- that they can be colours, emotions, and paint an image better than Van Gogh. words are powerful, and can heal a wounded soul, spark an idea into a reality, or move mountains with the tiniest of pens. It's given me my love of words and writing back, and pushed me in the direction I want to go.
I learned that forests are a magical thing - faeries like to tamper with humans, and people fall in love with a snap of the finger. It's easier to get the guy you love to fall in love with you when you're disguised as a guy. Villains are only motivated by their own greed, including killing their own brother or sister, but in the end they fail. If you engage yourself in avenging your father's death, you might push someone to commit suicide. Insanity is hereditary. Egypt is selfish and over dramatic. The show "Lost" is not an original idea.
I feel more cultured and have a new perspective on life, thanks to these past four months. I can feel graduation right around that less than 2 year corner, and I'm excited to see what else I can learn, and take into the real world.
