finding comfort in my walk

It's that certain walk. That certain tilt of the head when they look at you, silently asking you questions. That certain way they cross their arms or the way they hunch forward in a chair. Everyone has a signature way of carrying themselves. Whether it's our walk or the way we sit in a chair, our personal signature is written all over our bodies. I know people who walk with their feet facing outwards; bounce with every step; glide like they're walking through air; take baby steps and walk really fast; and drag their feet. From three blocks away I can tell it's them simply from their walk -- it's so catered to their personality that their mannerisms is what makes them recognizable. that's interesting.

The closer your relationship becomes with a person, the more you know them by their mannerisms. You not only know the kind of person they are inside, but you subconsciously know them by the way they cross their arms, lean on one foot when they stand, bite their nails, throw their head back during a hearty laugh, or play with their hair. So much of our emotions are carried with the way we hold ourselves that if we could have a conversation without words, our bodies would tell volumes.

It's comforting to know that someone you hold close to your heart knows how you lean back in a chair so they give you the wall side of the table; gives you gum to chew on instead of your nails; and bobs their head with you so you don't look stupid bobbing to music by yourself.

I think I just love knowing that people understand me without having to ask a lot of questions or can pick up my emotional state by the way I say "hi". There's comfort in having a signature walk. People know that it's you, and it's comforting to know people know you.

so then why
do i find myself
trying to change my walk?
